As one of the premier fund-raising events in North America since 1997, the Gala has raised more than $5,000,000 in total for community services in Metro Vancouver.

The event this year was attended by a plethora of notable dignitaries. They included the Hon. Steven Point, Lieutenant-Governor of BC; the Hon. Wally Oppal,

Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism; the Hon. Linda Reid, Minister of State for Childcare; His Worship Sam Sullivan, Mayor of Vancouver; His Worship Malcolm Brodie, Mayor of Richmond and Her Worship Maxine Wilson, Mayor of Coquitlam.

“Tonight we have successfully met our fundraising target. These proceeds will benefit individuals who require services in the areas of youth, women, seniors, and family counseling programs,” announced Lawrence Woo, Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.

On February 15, senior officials of Citizenship and Immigration Canada: John Kent, Director of Admissions; Robert Godfrey, Assistant Regional Director General; and Jim Redmond, Assistant Director, Programs, Policy and Planning, visited the Community Airport Newcomers’ Network (C.A.N.N.) Kiosk at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR). They met with Tung Chan, CEO, Francis Chan, Program Director (Quality & Organizational Development), and Parampal Sharma, C.A.N.N. Manager to review the current operations and explore new possibilities of services. In 2007, C.A.N.N.

included Eric Tsang, Michael Miu, Kenny Bee, Edmond Leung, Theresa Fu, Eric Suen, Fiona Sit, Justin, Hins Cheung, Niki Chow and Jamie Chik. The three masters of ceremonies were Louis Yuen, Siu Wai Mui and Sherming Yiu.

“We are extremely appreciative of the overwhelming support from both the community and our sponsors. Their continuous support has made the 11th Gala possible at GM Place,” said Mrs. Linda Wong and Mrs. Betty Funston, co-chairs of this year’s Gala.

The annual S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Fundraising Raffle Sale, had the winning numbers drawn during the show.

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Fundraising Gala 2008 held at General Motors Place was attended by an audience of over 10,000 and successfully achieved its fundraising target of $380,000

welcomed 34,427 immigrants. The top source countries were China, Philippines, India, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Iran, Myanmar, United Kingdom and Hong Kong. Myanmar was a new addition to the list for the first time as we served a large number of Karen refugees at YVR.
