It was a day of celebration for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. On September 26th, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. invited over 960 government         representatives, volunteers, members, staff, and friends to its 35th Anniversary Dinner in Floata Seafood   Restaurant. Honoured guests, including Secretary of State James Moore, Premier Gordon Campbell, Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan, Coquitlam Mayor Maxine Wilson, and Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, congratulated S.U.C.C.E.S.S. for its 35-year of hard work contributed to the community.

Thirty-five years ago, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. was originally

established by merely four dedicated volunteers hoping to help Chinese immigrants to settle. Thirty-five years later, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has grown into an agency of three              organizations, with a staff team of over 400 people, serving clients of multicultural      backgrounds at 23 service    locations in BC and two    overseas offices.

On the day of celebration, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. showcased and enjoyed the performances put on by Ms. Pancy Lau and two Dragon Idol Champions, Dixon Wong and Vivian Tse, who dazzled the audience with their fabulous singing. Later on, Strathcona Chinese Dance

The 35th Annual General Meeting of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. was held on Sunday, September 21st.

Eleven board members were nominated and elected. Ken Tung, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. outgoing Chairman, and Tung Chan, CEO, reported on S.U.C.C.E.S.S. new expansion and many achievements since last fiscal year. 

At the end of the meeting, Ken Tung, who has served six years on the Board, stepped down from the Chairman position, and Peter Kwok now became the new Chairman of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.

Mr. Kwok has been involved with community groups since 1992, and has served on various City of Vancouver working and advisory groups and organizations such as the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden     Society and Shaughnessy Heights Property Owners' Association.

He said, We would like to acknowledge the contribution of        outgoing Board of Directors. This year we have moved further to diversify the cultural background of our Board members. The new Board has 5 members of non-Chinese descent, including one of Korean, two of South Asian and two of European origin. All members are outstanding professionals from education, real estate, business, finance, legal, health and social services. S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is committed to continue implementing the strategic direction of a multicultural service organization.

Maggie Ip, Founding Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and Chair of the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. 35th       Anniversary Commemoration Committee, commented, [the dinner] is a time to pay tribute to those faces C our donors, members, volunteers and staff, known or unknown - for their extraordinary contributions which had led to our success today.
