2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Fundraising Gala
Surpassed Target

Text Box: As an integrator for a    multicultural society, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. starts playing an instrumental role in bridging      WorkSafeBC to the Vancouver Korean  community - an online resource for Korean  workers and employers facing language barrier in accessing work-related information was       provided.
After collaborating with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. on        promotional campaigns for the Chinese     WorkSafeBC website, WorkSafeBC once again worked with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to      promote WorkSafeBC¡¯s new Korean website in January 2009. 
In addition to the      Korean WorkSafeBC website, other languages offered online include traditional Chinese,   simplified Chinese,  Punjabi, French,      Vietnamese, and     Spanish chosen based on the frequency of  inquiry calls received by WorkSafeBC.            Information provided ranged from reporting a work-related injury,    starting a claim, to heal and safety related        publications.

Foundation Chair Dazzled the Crowd

The 2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S.  Fundraising Gala was         successfully held on February 27 at The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver. This year, the Gala was attended by over 850 guests and raised over $340,000.
As in previous years, this year¡¯s Gala was well attended by  notable dignitaries. Amongst these special guests were:    representing the Prime      Minister of Canada, the Hon. Stockwell Day; Minister of International Trade and     Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway; the Hon. Gordon Campbell, Premier of British Columbia; the Hon. Colin Hansen, Minister of Finance and Minister Responsible for the Olympics; the Hon. Murray Coell, Minister of   Advanced Education and   Labour Market Development;

the Hon. Ida Chong, Minister of Small Business, Technology and Economic Development; the Hon. Linda Reid, Minister of State for Childcare; His Worship Gregor Robertson, Mayor of Vancouver; His Worship Malcolm Brodie, Mayor of Richmond and His Worship Richard Stewart, Mayor of Coquitlam.
¡°Tonight we have successfully met our fundraising target. These proceeds will benefit individuals who require      services in the areas of youth, women, seniors, and family counselling programs,¡±       announced Betty Funston, Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.   Foundation.
The 2009 Fundraising Gala began with a banquet and   followed with an intimate      concert by three distinguished artists from Hong Kong. Chet

Lam, renowned singer and song writer; Ha Yu, newly crowned Best Actor at the 2008 TVB Anniversary Awards, and Annabelle Louie.Joann Wong-Bittle and Dr. Raymond Kwan, Co-Chairs of the Gala, thanked the   artists who flew in all the way from Hong Kong for the event. The Co-Chairs also acknowledged Presenting Sponsor, TELUS, and       Official Airline Sponsor, Air Canada.
The annual S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Fundraising Raffle Sale, a companion fundraising effort along with the Gala, had the winning numbers drawn   during the show.
This year¡¯s top three raffle sales financial institutions were: HSBC Bank Canada,        Scotiabank and TD Canada Trust.

Betty Funston, with her grace and elegance, sailed onto the stage of the 2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Fundraising Gala, the most significant event for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and the Chinese-Canadian community in?Vancouver.
Betty, joined by Joann Wong-Bittle and Dr. Raymond Kwan, Co-Chairs of the Gala, filled the evening with glamorous sparks and brightened the night for many. Under Betty¡¯s lead, 2009 Gala ended on an impeccable note.
Incorporated in 2001, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation is a charitable?foundation responsible for raising funds for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. It hosts events such as the Fundraising Gala and the Walk with the Dragon. Betty has been an active member on the Foundation board since 2003 and took the helm in 2008.
